 Brian had a calm day today. Most of Brian's vitals were either steady or slightly better than the day before. It appears that some function is coming back on the right side of his heart. Brian has a lot of swelling in his body. The main focus today has been to try and remove excess fluid that has built up. This will be accomplished through his dialysis machine. The care team has to be careful with how quickly they try and remove his excess fluid. If removal is done too quickly, it will raise his blood pressure and cause the ECMO machine to not work as well (it requires his blood to be thin to function properly). Brian's doctor is hoping to change him over to the VVECMO machine as soon as he is stable enough to handle it. It is just hard to say how long it will take before he will be ready. She isn't planning to wake him up enough to evaluate his neurological functions until he is back on the VVECMO machine.
