Brian's status is the same today as it was yesterday. His doctor let me know that they decreased his blood flow on the AV ECMO machine to 2 liters as planned today. In the morning, his care team plans to decrease blood flow again and see how he does while Brian has all of the scans and pretesting done. There is a final test that will be done in an operating room where, if all looks good, the AV ECMO machine will be turned off while they monitor him. If after 30 minutes, his heart rate/oxygen levels and everything else looks good, then they will proceed to remove the two cannulas attached between his heart and the AV ECMO machine. It will be a big step towards Brian being able to qualify for a lung transplant (sometime in the future) if this is what the medical professionals continue to feel is necessary.
Thank you for the update! As always your thoroughness in describing his condition is appreciated. The strength your family is showing is unbelievable during this stressful time. We are sending positive energy tonight for Brian as tomorrow is a big day! Your family is always in our thoughts.
