June 28

So far, I have very little information. Hopefully, I will be updated soon on details of what took place today. I have not heard from Brian's doctor but after multiple phone calls this evening, his nurse did give me a very brief overview. He says that Brian is mostly stable tonight (8:30 pm). Doctors performed the study to see if Brian could handle being removed from the AV ECMO machine which is supporting his heart. During the study, Brian was not able to function properly without the AV ECMO machine and he is now in the process of recovering. No CT scans were performed as they did the other study first and now Brian is in need of rest to recover. Brian's doctor has been made aware that I am anxiously waiting for her to call me, so hopefully, I will have more details soon that I can add below.

Brian's night shift doctor called me back after 9pm tonight. She explained that she had been told that as the study was taking place, Brian was able to get to a lower support level than the last time they attempted to stop the AV ECMO assistance, but ultimately started to have issues that indicated he could not be without the machine. His circulation slowed and as they tried giving him medication to compensate for the slowed circulation, his heart started to enlarge (right ventricle began to dilate). This indicated to the specialists that his heart is not yet ready to function without mechanical assistance. They plan to give him some time to recover and then try again.
