Brian's CT scans were moved to tomorrow's schedule instead of today. As of 9am this morning, his doctor ordered all of his sedation medication to stop being administered to him. The care team is very interested in trying to get Brian to respond to any commands and let them know that he is neurologically okay. Upon hearing this, my first concern was about Brian being in pain. He still has two canulas, which are good-sized tubes inserted into his body along with multiple IV's, and PICC lines. I can't imagine what it will all feel like without any pain medication. His doctor said that right now they are hoping his body receptors are just saturated and his body is just needing time to process all of the medications he has been on. A good friend of mine who is an RN also reminded me that Brian's liver isn't processing well right now, so it will take time for the sedation medication to be filtered out of his body. She also reminded me that he is being monitored so if he starts showing distress, they will be able to address the issue very quickly and get him anything he needs so that he won't be uncomfortable. His doctor told me that they are concerned about Brian beginning to have seizures and they will carefully monitor him for any signs of them. I'm glad we will be traveling to Santa Clara tomorrow afternoon and will be able to spend time with him. Maybe he will better respond to our voices than he has with his doctors and nurses? He is still requiring higher amounts of blood pressure medication than his doctors would like to see him on. Hopefully, the CT scans will give them some answers tomorrow. Brian's bilirubin count is staying steady at 13 again today.
